Travel Day Five

Wednesday, February 3rd 2010

Today we went to the National Museum of Ethiopia. We let Libby use the camera and she took 92 pictures! She took pictures of every single exhibit. The most exciting for me was seeing Lucy! (My degree's in anthropology and I'm a real nerd about archaelogical stuff.) The artwork we saw was also amazing. I think it's so cool that the artist would paint a picture of himself at the bottom of the painting as his signature. On our way leaving the museum our van had to pull over to the side of the street (as much as possible on the jam packed streets) while a motorcade went by. Our driver said that was the prime minister. Cool! I don't know for sure that it was, but it was definitely someone important.

We also went shopping today. We headed to the House of Hope first to leave the baby that was in our group so her parents could go shopping with us. The other older kids said they wanted to stay at the HOH and play, but not Libby. She wanted to stay with Mommy and go shopping. And is she ever a shopper! She's very decisive about what she wants and she wants a lot - jewelry, pink shoes, purse, dresses, and chocolate. While we were shopping, the shop keepers kept bringing out more things to show us and brought us all Cokes. We were definitely being catered to and I feel we got some really amazing deals.

While riding in the van, Libby is constantly saying "ooooooh". She likes the big buildings and we even saw one single strand of Christmas lights and she had a fit. I can't wait 'til she sees Christmas in America.

We went to the Hilton today to confirm our flights and Libby went straight for a gift counter filled with jewelry and watches and lots of sparkly things! Tonight we also lost power in the evening for about an hour, so we worked on a Peter Rabbit sticker book by candlelight and watched Tom & Jerry on DVD. Thank goodness I brought my laptop along!
