Tonight, we sat down with Sam and shared our adoption news for the first time. As we expected, his initial reaction was not too pleasant, he cried at first and said that he didn't want things to change, he liked things exactly as they are right now, didn't want us to adopt, etc. I completely understand these emotions - after all he has been an only child for 8 years!
But amazingly after about 15 minutes of talking with him and telling him that we would be traveling to Vietnam to adopt his baby sister, his reaction changed completely. The tears dried up, he started asking about the plane ride, what is Vietnam like, and so on. Within another 15 minutes he is talking about all the things he is going to teach his little sister and says he wants her "NOW!" He has spent the rest of the evening looking at pictures of Vietnamese children in orphanages on the internet, finding Vietnam on the map, telling me where we should put the baby bed, etc.
I am so happy that he is looking forward to the day he will be a big brother, and I just know he is going to be great!
