This week, I ordered and received "Simple Amharic for Adoptive Families." This book and CD set is great. It teaches the words and phrases that adoptive families will likely need/use with their Amharic speaking child. Charles, Sam, and I have been sitting down together and learning four to five new things every night. We're starting with the basics - hello, goodbye, I love you, yes, no, poop, pee pee. Of course, Sam gets a kick out of those last two and he also likes practicing telling the dog "night night" in Amharic. We're having fun!
We have also decided that Sam will not be traveling with us to Ethiopia. This was ultimately his final decision but we really think it's best. After all, this is not a vacation. The plane ride itself would be really tough for Sam. And more importantly, Charles and I will really need to focus on bonding with Alison and helping her get to know us. We're praying the transition is really smooth!
