Our alarm clock was set for 1:30 AM and we were out the door by 3:00 AM in order to drive to Atlanta to catch our flight to D.C. Five inches of snow fell yesterday and catching our original flight out of Nashville to D.C. would be impossible now. We were changing flights at the last minute (thank goodness we paid extra for the changeable ticket) but I'm still really worried about the three hour drive to Atlanta.
My sister and her friend drove us to Atlanta. It was not a pleasant drive at all! We slid three times on the icy roads and I thought our driver was going entirely too fast. (Little did I know this was just preparing me for the crazy driving habits of Ethiopians.) When we pulled up at the airport in Atlanta, guess what I left in the car? Our passports and money. We were on the phone and having my sister's friend circling around and around to get back to us with our very important stuff.
We made it to D.C. just fine but had to wait 8 hours for our flight to Addis. Just one of the drawbacks of changing our flight due to snow. The entire time we were in Washington it snowed and snowed! Our flight was delayed over an hour because they had to de-ice the plane so much. Talk about adding to my worry! It was 15 degrees when we left D.C. I felt such relief when we finally took off and we were safely up in the air. Today has been long and exhausting to say the least. I can't believe we're finally on our way to get our daughter. We did it. Thank you Jesus! Next stop...Rome.
